I enjoy creating caricatures and animals in the Scandinavian tradition either as carvings or using terracotta clay. Sometimes I use a natural finish to bring out the grain of the wood. Other times, I use wood burning techniques which are as old as the hills. Other times, I seal and paint my works with acrylic washes. Many of the painted pieces have fifteen to twenty layers of color. I consider my figures, whether you call them carvings, sculptures or whatever, my fine art side. Sometimes when I start, I really have no idea of what the final product will be. |
